As a Permanent Resident Can I Leave Canada for More Than 6 Months at a Time?

Question by Joey T: As a permanent resident can I leave Canada for more than 6 months at a time?
I am aware of the ‘2 years out of 5’ rule, but I was told by the immigration official when I entered Canada that to retain my residence I can only be outside of Canada for a maximum of 5 months.

Having spoken to Citizen and Immigration Canada they tell me that there is no such restriction, only that I must be physically present in Canada for 730 days out of every 5 years. So according to them I could leave for up to 2 years at a time.

Who is correct? Thanks.

If you leave for more than 6 months in a calendar year, you cannot obtain health insurance. However, you can leave for longer than that without problem. “Retain your residence” means you are actually living in that place (in Canada). If you are gone more than 6 months, you are deemed to be no longer living there.

Does the Raspberry Keynote Supplement Really Help With Weight Loss?

Question by taurus_5986: Does the raspberry keynote supplement really help with weight loss?
Dr. Oz suggested raspberry keynote as a weight loss aid and I was wondering if anyone had tried it and had success? What brand is affordable and good quality? How long did it take to see results? Thanks for your help!

Answer by ClickMaster
It’s unfortunate that Dr. Oz, a commercial celebudoctor, had to mention Raspberry Ketones (RK) on his TV program because the inevitable result was, as happened with Oz and acai on Oprah, a sudden global demand for this mysterious new cure for the overweight. The facts are, however, quite different from the buzz on the internet which is always driven by advertising and profit motive.

I Need Help Coping With the Loss of All My Major Dreams?

Question by Metoo: I Need Help Coping with the Loss of All My Major Dreams?
My life has been more than difficult lately. I lost my job (after trauma/abuse starting my career as a teacher), my fiancee who has been with me since we were practically kids just let me; and I was diaganosed with an ongoing illness (that is not terminal and can be controlled with medication, but it is still upsetting because it makes it difficult for me to be able to have children). I feel like all of my dreams are shattered (my dream of marrying my partner, having kids, teaching). I’m living at home, don’t have a car, and feel useless.

I’ll be going away in a few days to stay with my dad in another city, but after that I don’t know what to do. I’ve been looking for jobs for months and have been working part time as a substitute teacher, which I am very miserable doing and just can’t face anymore.

Father Blames Himself for My Brother Suicide?

Question by WhatToDo: Father blames himself for my brother suicide?
In 1999 my younger brother committed suicide. Through out the years my family has struggled with accepting it. My father being the worse of them. He consistently wants to blame himself for my brothers actions. I personally do not know where to start and what to say when he approaches me with his guilt issues. He makes up the classic excuses for blaming himself such as “only if i had done this” and ” I am the father, I am supposed to not let this happen to my children” Now he is in counseling with a couple of doctors and has been for many years, but he is also a very good actor and very good at twisting things, so I sometimes wonder if he talks about these issues with his doctors. My question to the community is what do I do and how do I handle myself when he confronts me with his feelings. I try to explain to him that it is not his fault, and by saying “if only i had done this” is just creating a excuse to blame himself, which in turn makes him feel worse. What if anything can i do to help him realize that it is not his fault. That my younger brother made a dumb decision, and my father is not to blame for his actions. TYIA Thomas
The fact that a child is not supposed to die before the parent is apparent to me, but he is not doing it for attention. Guilt is natural with suicide, and survivors never really heal after they lose there loved one. So being the brother of the victim and knowing what my father is feeling I can tell you it is not for attention. Please only qualified people respond TYIA

How Do You Tell Coworkers That Someone Close to You Died? Do You Just Not Tell Them?

Question by Superman: How do you tell coworkers that someone close to you died? Do you just not tell them?
Some coworkers don’t know how to react so maybe it’s better not to tell them. What would you say instead? Would you instead say something like the following? “A family emergency has occurred, ill have to miss work for a few days.”

Answer by Bethany H
I’d probably say ‘I’m going to a funeral, i’ll probably miss work for a few days,”
That way you’re not directly telling them how close the relative is – so they won’t feel so ‘awkward’ – so they wouldn’t ask who it was or anything – they’d pretty much leave you alone.
