How Do I Tactfully Console My Friend?
Question by Alex: How do I tactfully console my friend?
I (a heterosexual woman) was talking to my friend (he’s a gay man), and I was describing to him about the joys of being single, and how love was overrated. He then laments to me on how he wishes he could develop my mindset. Apparently he recently broke up with his boyfriend (we’re not that close, so I didn’t know about this detail of his personal life) and he’s still not fully over it yet, coping with grief. I feel like I should say something to comfort him, but I’m awfully incompetent when it comes to these things. What should I say?
