Account of a Religious Ceremony From the Perspective of an Anthropologist?
Question by Laura: Account of a religious ceremony from the perspective of an anthropologist?
I have to write about 5 pages about going to a church service, describing it as if I were an anthropologist. I need to reference both Paden and Eliade, specifically anything mentions in the books “Interpreting the Sacred” and “The Sacred and the Profane”. Can someone please help me out? Give me a basic outline to work with, or an idea to work around, or anything! I’m swamped with work and this assignment is causing my grief. Help!!??

It helps if you pretend that they’re in some weird cult going through meaningless rote ceremonies to worship an imaginary creature they think actually exists. And by pretend, I mean realize. You have to remove yourself from the cultural familiarity you have with it. Most people aren’t going to be familiar with Paden and Eliade, since we’re not in a class that has their books as required reading.
