What Is Sympathy, Empathy, and Compassion?

Question by hey: What is sympathy, empathy, and compassion?
and how do they influence our daily lives?

Best answer:

Answer by capwest5a
Sympathy = feeling FOR someone (“I can understand your loss.”)

Empathy = feeling WITH someone (“We’ll share this struggle together.”)

Compassion =
– a deep awareness of and sympathy for another’s suffering
– the humane quality of understanding the suffering of others and wanting to do something about it

Compassion is a combination of sympathy and empathy.
(“I can understand your loss and we’ll share this struggle together.”)

In our daily lives, for a certain event in your life, some people will sympathize with you, others will empathsize with you, yet others will be compassionate. There are of course others who will do none of those three things.

I’m very sorry for your loss. There are many pet loss support groups, as well as many books on how to heal from the loss of a pet. I recommend “Cat Caught My Heart” – it features cute stories about people remembering their beloved cats.

Do You Think a “Miscarriage/Infant Loss Support” Section Should Be Included Under Pregnancy and Parenting?

Question by T-Mama: Do you think a “Miscarriage/Infant Loss Support” section should be included under Pregnancy and Parenting?
Do you think it could be helpful? Or do you think it would be unnecessary?

(Please at least be respectful if you are inclined to think it’s not necessary. There are many parents out there who have experienced miscarriages or infant/child loss.)
Amy M, why not include both? Sounds like both could be useful.
Ugh, I didn’t even think about trolls. That would be a terrible place for trolling. And you know someone would do it, sadly.

Grief Websites for Young Adults?

Question by Flamethrower Mouth: Grief websites for young adults?
I am 25 and my father has mesothelioma and is in hospice. I am having a very hard time dealing with it and it is just my mother and I as far as family goes. My fiance is supportive but I feel like it’s too much for him to comfort me all the time. My friends have stepped down and are, I guess, ignoring the fact that this is happening to me. I would like to email or have a support group about young adults who have gone through the same thing as I am going through!! I am not a teen, but I am not old enough to just “deal with it” yet….
