I Had Inhalants Abuse? Please Give Any Info You Know! Anyone!?

Question by julie: I had inhalants abuse? Please give any info you know! Anyone!?
I huffed/had inhalants abuse for 2 years?

I would sniff things through my nose about twice a day. It was really bad for about five months. I have been done for about 7 months now. But how do I move on and stop worrying about that I could get cancer? That I did damage and blahblahblah? How do I recover so I’m healthy again?

Please continue “reaching out” (for help), and get into some sort of program of recovery which ideally should include attending those 12-step meetings, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The first step to sobriety (being sober) is admitting that one has a problem in which you seem to have done.

Why Is a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Not Considered a Psychologist?

Question by Think about it: Why is a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) not considered a psychologist?
wikipedia says that psychiatrists and clinical psychologists are psychologists, but that an MFT is not necessarily one. You’d think a psychiatrist who we think of someone who just prescribes meds wouldn’t be considered a psychologist and some answers here say they’re not really trained to listen to patients problems, so why isn’t an MFT considered a psychologist?
thanks worrier!

Do LPC’s Counsel People With Mental Disorders or Just People Dealing With Stress, Depression, and ?

Question by ?: Do LPC’s counsel people with mental disorders or just people dealing with stress, depression, and ?
relationship/work problems. Do you need to specialize in mental health counseling in order to counsel people with mental disorders??

This is a good question that deserves an answer.

I believe you are talking about “Licensed Psychological Counselors” or “Licensed Practical Counselors”. They go by different names in different states.

In the state I live in, the requirement for this job is very minumum. Only a bachelors degree and a year’s worth of training can give someone the ability to apply for and use this license. Therefore, clergy people, drug and alcohol counselors, human resource counselors and school counselors can do this.

psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in treating mental illness.

Anyone can legally be called a therapist in the United States.

Clinical Psychologists require a PhD in clinical psychology, a few thousand hours of clinical training, and board exams.

How to Get Into Psychology ?

Question by please help!: How to get into psychology ?
I’m really interested in getting into psychology. Specifically a physiatrist that prescribes medicine. I’m an average b-a student. How can, and what are the steps, into making this possible?

Answer by T K5
A physiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathy (D.O.) who is board-certified in physiatry (also known as “physical medicine and rehabilitation”). This is an entirely different field from psychiatry or psychology.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathy (D.O.) who is board-certified in psychiatry and neurology.

A Ph.D.-level licensed clinical psychologist may be authorized to perform psychological testing (with training and expertise), and offer talk therapies but usually may not prescribed medications–even “psych meds”. The exceptions, which are rare, is when the Ph.D.-level licensed clinical psychologist is ALSO a licensed psychiatrist (M.D. or D.O.)–or is ALSO an M.D. or D.O. in another specialty (e.g. family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, ob-gyn, neurology) AND has the knowledge and experience and training to legally and ethically evaluate patients and prescribe such medications.
