Has anyone gotten their M.Ed. in School Counseling on-line or through a distance learning program? What are the best and most affordable one out there?

I have a B.S. in Physical Education and looking to get the M.Ed. in School Counseling. With teaching and coaching, it is virtually impossible to go to class and so I’m looking for an on-line/distance program.

Answer by Gregg DesElms
An M.Ed that’s via distance learning isn’t so hard to find…

…but one with a specialization in counseling might be at least a LITTLE more difficult.

They’re out there, though… in fact, there’s one right at the top of the search results from this Google search…

What Is the Difference Between Psychotherapy and Just Plain Old Psychology?

Question by Elphin B: What is the difference between Psychotherapy and just plain old Psychology?
How does Psychiatry and Counseling fit in? Who can be a Psychotherapist?

Best answer:

Answer by jdphd
Some psychotherapists are Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW). Other psychotherapists have a masters degree in psychology and have become licensed professional counselors. Some other psychotherapists are psychologists (PhD, PsyD, or EdD). Still other psychotherapists are psychiatrists (MDs) that have completed medical school and can also provide medication.

To be a psychiatrist, a person has to go to medical school. To be a counselor, one can have any of the above-mentioned degrees. To be a psychologist, a person has to go to a doctoral program in psychology. Psychologists have a variety of specialties (clinical, social, developmental, forensic, etc.).

Which School Should I Go To?

Question by rayne2k5: Which school should I go to?
I just recently received my acceptance letters for a masters degree in mental health counseling with a lpc (licensed professional counselor) certification. Furthermore, while I have yet to hear back from Columbia University (acceptance letters are going out this week) I have been accepted to my local state university (where I currently attend), Lesley University in Cambridge Mass, and Fordham University. (all acceptance letters are for the same degree) However I am unsure which university to choose being that all of these graduate programs offer little to no financial backing other than loans. My local state university is going to cost me roughly 20,000 to complete my entire degree while Fordham is going to cost roughly 80,000 minus travel expenses because I will be commuting from CT to NYC once a week via train. While I understand that the obvious choice would be to go for the cheaper school I am wondering if spending the extra money to go to a more prestigious institution would be worth the cost and give me a better chance at gaining entrance into a PH.D program or if I should save money and then try to enter a PH.D. program.
