Is Adoption the Right Road for Me to Take?

Question by Dominique Rose: Is adoption the right road for me to take?
Hey I’m not sure if this is normal but im 20 weeks pregnant and all the doubt and emotions are just coming through me. I’m 19 which I know is young. I got pregnant by a man who I thought was different, he persuaded me to keep the baby and then turned on me and even hit me while knowing I wa pregnant. Now here we are and I’m alone and love the hell out of this baby & I don’t know what road to take now. I’m poor always have been growing up. I live In the ghetto with my family, I wouldn’t call the house very clean either. My family supported me at first with the baby but they also doubt like crazy. I don’t have a car and my mom can barely afford to send me to school to further my education which I’d love to do. I was adopted myself and I know the questions and frustration I had growing up about who my real parents were. And I never understood why they gave me up. I see now that they, like I feel now, want the child to have more then what they can offer. That’s how I feel I want this child to have the world and I know I can love it eith everything in me because I already do and I don’t even know what I’m having yet. I just dont know If I can give them the best of the best. I feel like I need help and I just don’t know what to do anymore.

What Is a Psychotherapist?

Question by catfight_007: What is a Psychotherapist?
How is it different from a psychiatrist, psychologist, or therapist?

Best answer:

Answer by Dr. Bob
A psychotherapist is a “healer” (therapist) of the “psyche” (“mind”).

A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor with specialized training in psychology. (Some may answer that a Psychiatrist is different because he/she can prescribe medications. While that is true in most states because the MD is a medical degree, that is NOT the distinguishing characteristic!)

A “Psychologist” is usually someone licensed in their state to practice psychological counseling (that is, “psychotherapy”) with at least a Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree. A Psychologist may also specialize in other fields, such as psychological testing, industrial psychology, and other types of psychology.

A therapist is a helper/healer. Such a person needs no special credentials, training, or education.

The same is true of a “counselor.”

How Many Graduate Credits to Be a Counseling Psychologist?

Question by me!: How many graduate credits to be a counseling psychologist?
I want to get a master’s in counseling psychology. I know some schools differ, but for the most part, how many credits would I need in order to get a master’s?
If I would go for a PhD, how many credits would I need?

Best answer:

Answer by David
The most common pathway is to do a PhD in Psychology which depending on the programs takes 5-7 years full-time including the internship year. There are some other pathways too, the most common one being a PsyD (4-7 years full-time), but all of them are doctoral, which means that 4 years full-time is the minimum. (The number of credits is somewhat irrelevant since different universities have a different number of credits per year.)
