Is My Siamese Cat Drinking Too Much Water?

Question by Nancy: Is my Siamese cat drinking too much water?
I have a beautiful flame-point Siamese who is 15 years old. I consider that young because my cats live to be 20 or older. He is healthy, plays, eats, but I’ve noticed that he is drinking an awful lot of water. The water bowl lives in a tray in the living room (don’t ask) and I’m usually on the couch so I can monitor how many times he goes to drink.

I can’t tell you how many times – I will start counting today – but does anyone know how much is too much? I’m afraid of diabetes or kidney failure….

Can someone help? Thank you in advance.

Nancy – I’m terribly sorry. As for the rest of you, again, how much is too much? I’m scared because last November I lost my Oriental shorthair (my favorite cat EVER) to bladder cancer and I don’t know if I’m being hypersensitive because of him (although he peed blood for months prior to diagnosis).

kidneys. I had a cat who was drinking a lot and I didn’t give it much attention. I just figured it’s winter, the air is dry, she’s drinking alot. Then her fur started to look oily. Then I noticed all the pee in the litter box when I would scoop. By then she was already in advanced stages. It happened so fast and she was only 8 years old. I gave her IV subQ fluids for a month and she passed away. 🙁
that’s my story, tho. It may not be yours.
It’s worthy of attention.
