Is “Depth Psychology” Still Practiced Today? IS This Considered Just a Precurser to Modern Therapy?

Question by candi82: Is “Depth Psychology” still practiced today? IS this considered just a precurser to modern therapy?
I have been looking into Psychology, in particular, more of a Counseling Therapy. I have come across Depth Psychology, but I have no idea why or how this would be useful to get a degree in. Anyone know what this is, or if it is really relevant enough to major in, in the 21st Century?

According to cursory research, it refers to Jungian analysis, e.g., using dreams. It would be, if it is still practiced, exotic and rare. I would not seek to major in it. In any case if you are seeking to be a counselor, try to specialize in some pragmatic area, like drug counseling. In that case, you could get a government job. Before committing to a major, check the job market. Talk to a career counselor in school for a resource. Look up your state or district government website, as there is usually a section on jobs and how to apply. That is one area of research that helps. It is not as simple as opening an office, and saying, I am qualified to counsel you. Whereas, if you have a law degree and pass the bar, that is all you have to do. You can chose to work for someone or just rent space in an office building. It is much more clear cut and lucrative.
