Question by spiffy(p]ooh: Can anybody help me decide on whether to be a psychiatrist or a psychologist?
I know that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor and can give out medicine and psychologist don’t deal with medicine. I really want to deal with kids that have been through thing like abuse and rape and etc. Like what the chinese dude in law and order svu deals with.

How long do you plan on studying? To be a psychiatrist, you’re looking at 9 years, for psychology its 4 or 5. Are you only interested in mental and emotional problems or physical problems too? You got to be a M.D before you can study psychiatry, psychology is a simpler route if thats what you’re looking for.
