I don’t have scientific data, but I would suggest depression results by being caught up in thinking.
Whatever the thinking is doesn’t matter, it’s not allowing you to experience the happiness that is in the present moment.
Instead you’re traveling to past or future, totally oblivious to the happiness that is already here.
