Wondering What to Do for This Funeral Issue?
Question by greengo: Wondering what to do for this funeral issue?
There was a death and it was a teen. The family says, “no flowers, no condolences” and the funeral is private. I was wondering if “no condolences” means no visits or cards? Are they just saying they don’t want to hear from people? There is a large group of friends who has really not been able to express their grief, and we are confused, sad, uncertain. Any advice? Should I avoid sending a card, letter, visit, casserole? I get the impression that they don’t want to talk to anyone, but am at a loss what to do now, and also when we see them next.

I would wait to do anything. The are heartbroken by this loss, and just want to deal with it by themselves right now. Give them some time, and maybe an oppertunitty will arise for you to express condolences. You have to give people space.
