When to Plan My Wedding? Plus, There Is My Daughter’s Graduation to Consider…?
Question by Cynthia: When to plan my wedding? Plus, there is my daughter’s graduation to consider…?
My daughter is graduating in May and my other two children have birthdays in May, also. I was wanting to have an April wedding; but my siblings and mother live out-of-state and I wanted them to be here for both my daughter’s graduation and my wedding. But, due to time constraints/vacation time, etc. some of my family members will have to “choose” which event to attend. What if I had my wedding after my daughter’s graduation? Then, everybody could attend for both celebrations and also celebrate my other children’s birthdays. I was thinking of making a special toast and giving some special gifts to my children for their birthdays & graduation at my wedding reception. Do you think that would be acceptable? It could be a “very special time and celebration” for everyone! Please share any suggestions–I really want all my family members to be at both: my daughter’s high school graduation and my wedding. “Thank-you for your advice & counsel!”

Your idea sounds nice in theory but you want to make those occasions special for your children. You only graduate once; you don’t want to take the attention she deserves away from her on her special day. Your other children deserve to do what they want to do on their birthdays as well. You also deserve to devote an entire day to your wedding. I would probably do them all separately. Put the wedding off a few months; it won’t be any less special as long as you’re marrying the person you love!
Just my thoughts. Good luck! This will be an exciting year for you and your family!
