What Is “mindfulness” Therapy?

Question by kimpenn09: What is “mindfulness” therapy?
I am seeing a new therapist next week who practices, as one of his methods of therapy, “mindfulness.” I believe this is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy but would like to know more.
Please do not simply cut and paste from Wikipedia; I want to hear from people who are genuinely familiar with the treatment.
