Question by lisa: What is an art therapist and how much do they make?
I’m looking into jobs in the art field and I came across “art therapy” and it sounds interesting, but I’d like to be able to make a living too. What exactly does an art therapist do? And what’s the average salary?

Also what are some other jobs in art field? Besides the common stuff, like graphic designer for example.

an art therapist is a therapist. so, like, someone with a masters (or better) in psychology and training in therapy. they may (or may not) practice other kinds of therapy besides art therapy – it would just be one way they would have of communicating with people and helping them to understand themselves.

an art therapist could make anywhere from hardly any money (not all therapists can run profitable practices) to a good bit of money (50-100k, just like any other therapist with a decent job), to a whole lot of money (if they do run a very successful private practice. most likely they wouldn’t just be doing art therapy).

but it’s not about you being an artist at all.

your other question: if you want to be an actual professional artist (as opposed to a graphic designer or something), this book is supposed to be good (but i’ve never read it):
