What kind of a therapist? You can probably land a job as a psychiatric social worker with just a Masters degree in Social Work or Psychology. A Masters is four-years of undergraduate college, followed by two years for a Masters degree. Psychology is one of the “easier” sciences, compared to say, Nuclear Physics. But it is still college and will be harder than high school.

To have much chance of landing a position as a psychologist you need to have a Ph.D. Add three more years to the Masters.

To be a psychiatrist you need to attend medical school. That’s four years of undergraduate college, four years of medical school, and three years of residency (supervised medical practice).

There are many other kinds of therapists: Youth Counselors, Substances Abuse Counselors, Family Counselors, Marriage Counselors, etc. And this is only talking about mental health therapy. There are other kinds of “therapy” such physical therapy.

In high school all you need to do is take the standard college prep classes:

In this last link, avoid its recommendations for schools. These are little more than advertisements for for-profit trade schools such as DeVry and Kaplan. Degrees from such schools are pretty much worthless for getting jobs. Instead use
