Question by : To LGBT folk, how many of you have done this to keep peace?
How many of you have been sent to “anti gay therapy/counseling” or “straight camp”, or some bullshit like that, and then when you finished with all of it, you made a choice. How many of you decided to LIE and say “I’m cured, I’m totally straight now.” just to keep the bible thumpers and anyone who may have been harassing you/forcing you to change off your back? Have you basically been forced to keep your love life a secret from everybody? I’d love to hear your input on this. How many of you have been through this sort of thing?
No, my family is not homophobic, I was just wondering how many people have gone through this. I am confused about my sexuality though.

I haven’t really been to any kind of therapy or ‘straight camp’ but my mother did find out that I had feelings for this one guy. Since she never suspected me to have interest in other men, or refuses to believe it, she came up with a rationale to explain why I fell in love with him. Seeing how unaccepting she was of it, I agreed with her rationale and pretended to have some interest in women. This isn’t really as extreme as what you described but its somewhat close, I think.
