Loss and Grieving: Loss and Grieving: A Healing Process

Life is a cycle and part of this cycle is loss. With loss comes grief which is a natural part of the healing process and which will eventually lead to recovery. There are a lot of causes of loss. But no matter the cause, dealing with a loss can be a very complicated and emotional time in a person’s life.

The death of a loved one or a close friend is only one of the many forms of loss in a person’s life. There are different kinds of loss and it is very personal to the one experiencing it. Other forms of loss are the loss of health, a long-held dream, a job and loss of financial security. Some grieve for a relationship breakup or the loss of a personal object. Less obvious losses, like leaving home or graduation from school, can still generate strong feelings of grief.

Mormon’s Don’t “counsel” on Pets and the Afterlife?

Question by Misty: Mormon’s don’t “counsel” on pets and the afterlife?
Momons believe our pets have spirits and go to heaven but I have read the Mormon Church doesn’t “counsel” people on it. What does this mean? If you spoke to a Mormon leader about your grief on pet loss you would be rejected since they
don’t “counsel” people on it? Thank you.

It means that we don’t have a lot of doctrine about pets in the afterlife.

We care about all people and we would certainly speak to a person anytime they are having a difficult time – I’m generally the first one sent to any house where anybody is having a hard time and everybody has different challenges and troubles in their life. But you won’t be offered advice like “you will live with your pet again one day” because that’s not part of the revealed gospel.
