“Recovery” Just Looking for Others Opinions on “Drug Addiction”?

Question by trish m: “Recovery” Just looking for others opinions on “drug addiction”?
how many of you believe that 12 step programs work? and how many of you know someone who has given up everything that matters for their drug of choice? Just sincere answers please…
You have pointed out one of the main things that needs to be there “willingness” good job!
I’m an addict in recovery (5yrs) and I know each person is different. some just quit, others use AA/NA, and then some need a combo of the AA and therapy… One thing that all addicts lack is the ability to cope with life on life’s terms. If an addict doesn’t learn to cope then they tend to just switch addictions… from drugs to others i.e. eating, gambleing, workaholic, thank you guys for your answers and I’ll give this question till the end of the day..

I’m 14 and a Cutter, I Need Help?

Question by Felicity R: I’m 14 and a cutter, I need help?
I’ve been self harming for some time now, it started off with scratches and then to cuts, I’ve used a razorblade which made me bleed a bit and I started to go deeper and it bleeds more, I’ve just recently started to use a utility knife blade aswell.

I cut whenever I feel upset, lonely or sad/depressed and I think its getting worst. I know its not right to cut but its an escape, it makes me feel calmer and feel better when I feel miserable.

I don’t want to give it up but at the same time I know its best for me to get help. I’ve been very impulsive and seriously thought about suicide many times, I’m afraid that one day it’ll get very worse..

Can We Think of More Original Responses (For Marriage Issues) Than “Get Therapy?”?

Question by G.: Can we think of more original responses (for marriage issues) than “Get Therapy?”?
Seriously, at least 3 people say “Get Therapy” per question. That is the most unoriginal answer in the book. Why don’t we change behaviors, set boundries, re-evaluate situations, and become change agents instead? Not everything can be solved by talking to a shrink, sometimes one has to take responsibility for their actions and move forward! Dr. Phil can’t help everyone, and many times, folks have financial limitations to where that can’t pay some quack (i.e. Dr. Phil) 100 bucks an hour. Medications can help reduce the symptoms of depression, but one must also change their behaviors to avoid becoming “stuck” and dependant on such meds. Anyone got thoughts on this? Anyone want to play devils advocate and tell me I’m full of it?! Please do, differing opinions is always good!

Exactly Why Should I Feel Appreciation for God’s “sacrifice” of His Only Begotten Son?

Question by Printninja: Exactly why should I feel appreciation for god’s “sacrifice” of his only begotten son?
According to Christians, god is omnipotent, omniscient, and immortal. He/she/it can do anything, be anything… basically change the universe the way we take a breath.

Ergo, god could have as many “sons” as god wants. If god can do anything, and have anything, than god cannot SACRIFICE. Even if Jesus was god, sacrifice is an impossible concept for an all powerful being, because it can never be less than it is. Therefore, there is no reason why I should *feel* anything concerning god’s so called loss, because it could not happen.

This is just another slick control method the creators of this religion employed. They obviously knew that humans could relate powerfully to the concept of losing a child, so they wrote it in to make the followers feel guilt.

Find a Psychotherapist: Finding a Psychotherapist – Get the Right One for You

Psychotherapy is not a pretty sounding word. It sounds “psycho” and scary almost. But psychotherapy is exactly the opposite.

Definition: Personal counselling or intentional relationship used by psychotherapists to aid clients in problems of living.

The definition sounds simple enough, but finding a psychotherapist is not always simple. Take New York, for example. New York is quite large and finding a psychotherapist there may be a daunting task. To add to the stress of finding a psychotherapist amidst the thousands across New York, imagine being a newcomer to the big city, needing a psychotherapist and having no contacts. What a nightmare!

There are ways to find a psychotherapist in New York:

Online search engine results – fruitful but overwhelming
Yellow page listings in the local phone book – again, fruitful but overwhelming
Referrals – someone you trust recommends a psychotherapist
Therapist-specific websites – therapists may set up their own websites
