Psychiatry is the fifth largest medical specialty and ranks sixth in the number achieving board certification (6). The best estimate of the number of active clinically trained practicing psychiatrists in the private sector is 27,000.

This from “The Journal of Psychiatry”, approximately accurate for 2002-2003; hope this is helpful!

Also, as an MD and PHD in Neurology, I know from antoher journal that the percentage of psychiatrists over 60 is growing rapidly; the new residents entering the field are predominately female, and more of the counseling is done by psychologists and LCSW’s, with Psychiatrists mainly prescribing medications in consult with the forementioned counselors

Question by kathie: how much does a “family counselor” get paid?
that’s what i am planning to be right now.

i am a sophomore in highschool.
there’s this class called “family relation”
and i do not know if that would relate to what i am wanting to be.
also i haven’t took a spanish class yet.
i think that it would be good to have at least one year of spanish, even though i really don’t want to study or learn it.
any help or suggestions would be nice x]
