Nurse Interested in Mental Health & Crisis Counseling?

Question by Loretta Lynn: Nurse interested in mental health & crisis counseling?
I am about ready to graduate from nursing school and apply to take my NCLEX. I recently realized that a specific specialty I would love to become involved in is “crisis counseling.” Basically, someone who comes into a hospital/health unit/etc and helps counsel victims in scary & emotional situations. At this point, what would be the best route to go about accomplishing this goal? How does one become a crisis counselor? Could I do this as a nurse or should I go back to school for psychology/counseling?

I apologize if this all seems mixed up. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thank you for serious answers only.

What Is Non-Traditional Counseling?

Question by karatekidallen: What is Non-traditional counseling?

Best answer:

Answer by Shannon M
There are all different types of counseling. Any one of them that is based on theory which has been recently developed and not traditional psychoanalytic could be considered “non-traditional.”

I offer a “non-traditional,” type of therapy! (I am a mental health counselor) My non-traditional therapy is “online counselig.” What makes in “non-traditional,” is simply that it is not office based, not in person, and is done “electronically,” via internet technology. Aside from that, however, the type of therapy I practice is based on a traditional theory, called “Rogerian,” or “Person-Centered.”

I’d need to know more about what type of non-traditional therapy you are talking about in order to answer your question better. Email me if you like. Check out my website and my non-traditional therapy if you like. It’s listed below.

Doctors, Nurses, and Anyone Else in the Medical Field I Have a Question About Comas?

Question by : Doctors, nurses, and anyone else in the medical field I have a question about comas?
How do people eat? Do they still… ‘go to the bathroom’ in that state? How long do they usually last?

Best answer:

Answer by Jill
They “eat” through feeding tubes placed into their stomach, which gives an infusion of a nutrient formula but isn’t really “food”. They are hydrated through IVs, and also can get nutrient infusions through the IV as well.
Yes, the kidneys still produce urine which goes into the bladder. The person would have a catheter placed into the bladder to drain the urine. The bowels would not produce much due to not eating solid foods, but the person would be incontinent and require the use of pads which would need to be changed as needed.
How long they last varies on the reason for the coma. Could be hours, days, weeks, or even years, sometimes decades.

Why Are So Many of the Anti Choice Males?

Question by F-yourself: Why are so many of the anti choice males?
What kind of “man” promotes forcing his will on the unwilling body of a woman? The word that comes to mind is rapist.
I hope women living in red states and other conservative areas are smart enough to carry pepper spray. I wouldn’t want to encounter a pro life “man” in a dimly lit parking lot.
