What’s the Name of the Political Technique That Shifts Attitudes in Small Steps to Redefine the Center?
Question by nomodes: What’s the name of the political technique that shifts attitudes in small steps to redefine the center?
Do social scientists have a formal name for the political technique in which a partisan agent attempts to redefine or shift what is commonly believed to be the center of an issue-axis in a series of barely perceptible steps? For example, one group succeeded in engendering small incremental shifts in public attitude to normalize the idea of school vouchers in a community where previously vouchers had been viewed as an extreme option. Lay terms that come to mind include “framing the discussion” and “redefining the center”. I am looking for the scientific term.

I do not believe there is a scientific term beyond “reframing.” That was the term used in my classes.
Is Cocaine Not a Drug? Am I a Drug Addict if I Do Coke Once in Awhile, Then?
Question by Math Genius Maka: Is Cocaine not a drug? Am I a drug addict if I do coke once in awhile, then?
Thought not. Stupid conservatives and fundies, making everything into a drug. If I want to snort a little coke with my cat once in awhile, I guess that’s my own business.

Careers: Mental Health Counseling or Occupational Therapy?
Question by Cel M: Careers: Mental Health Counseling or Occupational Therapy?
Right now I am at a cross roads in terms of career paths. I have been accepted to a graduate program in Mental Health Counseling and another program in Occupational Therapy. I am not sure which program I should choose. I REALLY enjoy counseling. I would really love to help individuals with mental illnesses (depression/anxiety disorders), issues with self-esteem and relationship issues. For this reason, I applied to a graduate program in Mental Health Counseling. I have been accepted to the program and am very excited!
