Job Opportunities for Those With a “School Counseling” Degree?

Question by er0920: Job opportunities for those with a “School Counseling” degree?
I recently obtained a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. However, after completing my internship, I realized that school counseling has more to do with scheduling/paperwork/bookkeeping than actual counseling…i.e. I am beginning to wish that I got my degree in Mental Health Counseling or in Social Work.

But, before I go back for any further degrees, does anyone know if a Master’s Degree in School Counseling grants career opportunities for environments other than a school (i.e. maybe counseling in a hospital; working for an agency; etc).

I am really looking for an environment where my primary responsibility will be COUNSELING (individual or group), as opposed to the mess of paperwork which, to the dismay of many school counselors, seems to become their primary responsibility.

Why Isn’t “Responsible Drug Abuse” Legal?

Question by jsprplc2006: Why isn’t “responsible drug abuse” legal?
Here’s my story.

I was prescribed Dexedrine in high school for depression and drowsiness. It worked very well, but I had to change psychiatrists (my previous doctor specialized in pediatric psychiatry, so I now had an adult psychiatrist), and the new one was reluctant to prescribe me more once I was in college. I’m not sure why, since I never had the slightest problem with dependence; nothing negative happened as a result of it.

So I found a different source for the same drug. It’s now pretty well self-prescribed, and I have been using it over the last 4 years while I earned my B.Sc. in Honors Physics.

Still, it has never caused problems for me. I probably take about 15 pills per semester, which averages out to about 1 pill per week. That’s nearly nothing, and definitely not showing any signs that it’s causing me problems (as evidenced by the advanced science degree earned at the same time).

Where Can I Find a “Career Counselor”?

Question by : Where can I find a “Career Counselor”?
I’m a freshmen in high school, and I want to work at my local market, and I mentioned that to my mom when I was asking about jobs. She said that “You might want to find a Career Counselor before you apply so you can see what jobs you can have at your academic process”. I didn’t get half of that, but she suggested that I find a Career Counselor. Can I find one at school? Should I go online? What should I do?! Because I’m so confused, and I need a job like desperately. Family doesn’t really have enough money to pay me when I do my chores- so not enough money to give me allowance. Help please?
Thanks!!

Since We Know That Negative Emotional Behavior (E.g. Grief, Fear, Anger,) Has Negative Effects on the Body…?

Question by Black Tensegrity Warrior: Since we know that negative emotional behavior (e.g. grief, fear, anger,) has negative effects on the body…?
Is it a stretch to comprehend that positive emotional behavior (e.g. interest, cheerfulness, enthusiasm, serenity) can have positive effects on the body- including health & healing, mental acuity and intelligence, enhancement of senses, etc.?

That is, modes of behavior- deliberately planned beliefs, thoughts, words, and actions- can have predictable effects on the mind and body, which enhance or degrade life by triggering and guiding the body’s ability to generate natural stimulants and medicines, or toxic poisons as the case might be.

Would the same beliefs, thoughts, words, and actions invoked repetitiously, not max out the body’s ability to produce such substances, and produce effects unknown to people not used to prolonged exposure to the emotional moods or state of mind and body evoked. (Who would know what would happen if someone recited, for instance, Psalm 23, Isaiah 53, or “The Lord’s Prayer” 1,000 times a day? For instance, what if said person had just suffered a debilitating lung disease? Or had dyslexia?)

Collegewise Online Counselor – Arun Ponnusamy

Collegewise Online Counselor – Arun Ponnusamy – Arun has personally reviewed the college applications of over 8000 high school seniors and read approximately 20000 college essays. If that sounds mathematically impossible (it did to us the first time he said it), here’s how it worked. Before he became a partner and college counselor at Collegewise, Arun was an assistant director of admissions for five years at the University of Chicago (his beloved alma mater). He then held the same post for two years at Caltech and spent two final years as an admissions reader for UCLA.
