How to Fight Video Game Addiction?

Question by chicenstirfry: How to fight video game addiction?
I have played been addicted to video games for almost 10 years now, beginning with the mmorpg runescape. When I was younger I would wake up 1-2 hours early before school and wake up in the middle of the night to play video games. At times it would get bad enough that i would play 25-30 hours a week, probably more during the summer vacations. I would tell myself that video games were practically useless, and that I was essentially wasting my time, but I would never feel comfortable without playing some form of internet entertainment. Video games never had a effect on my grades through elementary, middle, and high school (I am 17) but I am very afraid of it carrying over to my college life. My addiction has gotten better in recent years, but I still spend every single second of my spare time on some kind of game. I have always felt like I could do better in school, do better in my sports, social life etc. but I could never pull myself away from video games. Any advice on how to cut down on this addiction would be appreciated.

I believe that you’re referring to a licensed substance abuse counselor. One may need to take college-level math while in college which may include statistics, however, I don’t believe that a counseling or social work student will need the rigorous type of mathematics such as calculus. The person majoring in counseling or social work needs to have empathy (being able to place oneself in another’s shoes) for the individual with the addiction. Communication skills and reasoning are also traits necessary for effective therapists.

What Is the Standpoint Called for Someone Who Doesn’t Believe in Medicine?

Question by bibbit: What is the standpoint called for someone who doesn’t believe in medicine?
I believe that there should be no medicine, and if we get diseases, we should just accept it and let ourselves die and not go against nature. Is there a name for this political stance? (like if you are for abortion, it is called pro-choice) I want to find some blogs or something where I can discuss with people who share my opinion, but I dont know what to google to find that!

I don’t know that it has a specific name, although that course of action in medical care would be deemed “non-interventionist”.

How to Become a Psychiatrist?

Question by .: How to become a psychiatrist?
I really want to become a psychiatrist/ therapist, I don’t mind whether child/ adolescent or adult, I took a psychology course in high school and loved it, I found it so interesting and I would really like to help people

But I hear a lot of people take a psychology degree and don’t get any related jobs, I just moved to Tennessee and will be going to college near Knoxville

Does any one know how easy it is to get psychiatry/therapist jobs here? How would I go about achieving my goal?

Alternatively I could like an Elementary school teacher? Do you think that is a more sensible idea?

Help! What Can I Do With a Masters in Psychology?!?

Question by Kiera Davies: Help! What can I do with a masters in Psychology?!?
I have a degree in psychology and have almost finished my masters psychology course. I am interested in the the health aspects such as eating disorders and counselling. The problem is my masters did not specialise in these but was more based towards clinical psychology. I have applied for a few assistant psychology jobs but have had no luck yet as they seem very competitive.

I am also living in a small town in the middle of nowhere and don’t drive and cant afford to learn. I would like to move away from home as soon as possible but I dont even know where to start when im looking for jobs.

I am willing to move away from psychology and maybe look for jobs such as social research or human resources, but I’m not sure how to go about this.
