What Kind of Salary Can an LCSW in Texas Expect?

Question by Andy: What Kind Of Salary Can an LCSW in Texas Expect?
I’m currently a 23 year old male graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. I’m doing the Masters of Social Work program in order to allow me to earn an LCSW after I graduate. My ultimate career goal is to have a private practice, working primarily with people with mood disorders, drug issues, and perhaps couples therapy.

What kind of salary can I expect out of the gate? Ten years from now? Anyone have any general advice they’d like to share? It’s all appreciated, thank you!

Are There Any Good Structured Therapy Programs?

Question by Dan: Are there any good structured therapy programs?
I’m 21 years old, male, from Idaho/USA. I was abused from early childhood and throughout my whole life. My situation and circumstances have forced me to continue living with my abusive parents. I am (hopefully) going to be getting SSI within a few months. I have my ALJ hearing coming up. I will move out and hopefully start a new life, but I’ve already been through 11 years of off and on therapy with over 14 different counselors. I’ve been through some really complex and horrible stuff that has caused many diagnosis, including PTSD, Avoidant Personality Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, And a few learning disorders. I am opposed to medication. Also, it’s not effective in my situation.

However I have made huge strides and am moving forward. I’m not as insane as I sound, I’m just in so much pain.

What Are the Rights of a Suicidal Person?

Question by musicpainter22: What are the rights of a suicidal person?
My boyfriend has never really come out and said it, but I kind of think he’s suicidal. He’s been dropping subtle hints. He tried one time and ended up in a mental hospital. In the subtle conversations we’ve had, he says that if he ever had to go back, he’d kill himself when he got out because of the memories he’d have with him. I’m not sure what that means… Although he’s said before that he’d be willing to do other things. He would try counseling, meds, group therapy; “ANYTHING but being admitted again.” (His words, not mine.)

If he told a doctor this, could he refuse to be admitted? He’s over 18, but I’ve heard that suicidal people are forced to get treatment. Does he have any rights as far as choosing what and how treatments are given? He’s willing to cooperate otherwise, and I don’t want to see him die because of stupid laws.
