TEDxVillanovaU – Elizabeth Behymer – Sharing Is Not Just for Kindergarteners

TEDxVillanovaU – Elizabeth Behymer – Sharing is Not Just for Kindergarteners – These three graduate students discuss how sharing resources, time and ideas fosters learning and change. Through the Villanova- Germantown High School Partnership program has ignited change both in the lives of Germantown students and Villanova students, alike. Eliza Behymer (’12 MS School Counseling;’09 BA Human Services), Kathleen Gavin (’13 MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Millersville ’11 BA Psychology), and Amanda Slattery (’13 MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling, ’10 A&S Communication), are Graduate Assistants in the Department of Education & Counseling at Villanova University. In 2010, Eliza began developing the Department’s Villanova-Germantown High School partnership. The following year, Kathleen and Amanda continued the program, building upon her previous work and creating “Germantown Scholars.” They bring background knowledge of education and counseling gained through teaching, interning in schools, and working with diverse populations. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. How Can I Help My 45 Year Old Boyfriend Deal With the Suicide of His 20 Year Old Son?

Question by Jessica: How can I help my 45 year old boyfriend deal with the suicide of his 20 year old son?
I’m 27 and we had a baby girl 7 months ago. I’ve dealt with suicide on a second person basis before, i.e. my maternal grandparents, and lots of family members and ex-boyfriends that “attempted”, so I feel like an expert, but not. I just want to know the best way I can support him without being pushy but also without being stand off-ish

How Does Addiction Intervention Work?

Question by caitlyn b: How does addiction intervention work?
I have a friend who is an alcohol addict. I have just recently gotten wind of the term “addiction intervention”. I was just wondering how this works. Maybe my friend could benefit from it.

Best answer:

Answer by alyse w
An addiction intervention is a process that aims to get the addict agree to undergoing treatment. This could be done by gathering his close friends and family members and talking to him, making him see the harsh effects of alcohol on him. In some cases, professionals, called intervention specialists, are made to facilitate the intervention as they are adept at handling cases like these. I think you should definitely do an intervention for your friend. Talk to him and make him see that alcohol has changed him and that it’s not doing him any good. Hopefully, he’ll see your point and get himself treated.
