Who Would You Recommend as a Great Couples Councilor in San Diego?
Question by cute_squeakers: Who would you recommend as a great couples councilor in San Diego?
I’m looking for a councilor who’s specialty with couples counseling especially in regards to trust. My boyfriend and I are our last thread and he is really reluctant to going to counseling, but I want to get recommendations anyway for the San Diego area or more specifically La Mesa if there is one closer.
Please just don’t choose from the yellow pages. I would prefer recommendations that they truly know if the councilor is good or not from experience or some kind of knowledge.

I don’t need it, at least not yet haha… but I’ve heard several people say that it doesn’t work. Granted, the people I’ve heard say this OBVIOUSLY need it and that’s their excuse for not going… but I’ve heard a few different people say this:
Couple’s Counseling only works as long as you go. It keeps the situation “under control” but as soon as you stop going everything goes to hell again.
So I would like the opinion of people who HAVE gone. Did it work for you? If it did/does, are you still going? If you stopped going, why?

I asked this in the Social Sciences > Psychology section and they were intensely unhelpful, so I’ll try here.
Background: My exceptionally brilliant emotionally repressed girlfriend of two years, who was the victim of some sort of childhood trauma or another (probably not sexual) lost control of her ability to regulate her emotions, told me she loved me for the first time since we’ve been together, and has been having great difficulty letting me back into her life because she thinks (or recognizes) that I’m the source of her problems.
