Support for the Mother Carrying a Profoundly Disabled Fetus?
Question by wife of marine: Support for the mother carrying a profoundly disabled fetus?
I am a sociology major. I am in the middle of a research project and have hit a brick wall. What I am trying to determine is if there are currently any policies or programs out there to assist the mother in PREPARING to become the parent of a profoundly disabled infant. Most of the information about early intervention I have found deals with the infant and doesn’t deal with the mother while still pregnant. Another thing is when I concentrate on searches regarding the pregnant mother I get hung up on THOUSANDS of website concerned with whether or not the mother should abort. I’m not interested in an ethical debate. For my research project the mother has already decided to proceed with the delivery and simply wants help….regardless of income levels.
I need facts on where the pregnant woman can go to get help in preparing to become the parent of a profoundly disabled infant. What I don’t need is where she can go to help for the child. There are hundreds of resources for the child from birth through life and on to death. I can’t find anything for the Mom though.
