September 11 One Year Anniversary Memorial Choreography

September 11 One year anniversary memorial choreography – At this early stage in our dance group’s history we called ourselves “Walk, Waddle and Roll” because of the idea that with Delsarte, if you could do any of those, you could dance. The Choreography: The towers appear, At the crashing gongs, the towers bow, and rise again in horror, then the the spirits,- the planes, -the dust circles, and collapses. The “goddess of grief” steps forward and weeps tears of blue ashes, into the hands of youth and beauty. The people rise, connect and raise the beam of light. They begin to move forward, while with a repeated gesture of heart bowed, and of seeking, they step together down the stairs. At each level someone falls behind, either by grief, fear or rage, but the community reaches for them and pulls them forward. Together they take a communion of the ashen tears of the goddess, and move forward and apart. They release some tears in public, and others will be carried in the heart always. The music is “Flowers in October” by Tim Janis. For me it represents the sound of the grief of September, but the beauty of life that must continue. That was our message to ourselves and to our congregation.
