Question by Goat ? Shibas and SBTs: People who have gone to”couple’s counseling”: Does it work?
I don’t need it, at least not yet haha… but I’ve heard several people say that it doesn’t work. Granted, the people I’ve heard say this OBVIOUSLY need it and that’s their excuse for not going… but I’ve heard a few different people say this:

Couple’s Counseling only works as long as you go. It keeps the situation “under control” but as soon as you stop going everything goes to hell again.

So I would like the opinion of people who HAVE gone. Did it work for you? If it did/does, are you still going? If you stopped going, why?

It worked for us. My wife cheated on me about 6 yrs into our marriage. We had several other issues, so we sought counseling. We interviewed 7 or 8 different ones before we decided on one. He had the same ideas about love and marriage that we had. It took about 9 months. She had to learn why she did it. I had to learn how to forgive her. We had exercises and homework to do. He met with each of us alone at times and together at other times. Basically, what he did was guide us to where WE figured out our problem, then he guided us through rebuilding. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth every cent, and way way cheaper than a divorce. and 37 yrs later, we are still together. We sent him a Happy Anniversary card every year on our anniversary. Two years ago one of his children wrote to us that he had passed.
