Question by Paul: What exactly happens at a funeral?
I am writing a story in which the main character’s mother passes away, and I would greatly appreciate details on what will happen. All I know is that the casket is taken from the home to the church (in this case in a horse-drawn carriage, with the close family behind in a hearse). Then the casket is carried inside – and from there, I’m lost, having not attended all that many in my life. I would like to know, as specifically as possible, what the vicar would say, and in what order, to save me putting ‘the vicar said a lot, and then it was over’. Any typical phrases or quotations they often say (including things they may say at the graveside of the deceased). Much appreciated!
The funeral is actually set in the present day, although that particular answer is still very helpful 🙂 The horse drawn carriage is just preference of the family; the woman’s husband is an ambassador, so it is quite an elegant and grand occasion
