Nurse Interested in Mental Health & Crisis Counseling?

Question by Loretta Lynn: Nurse interested in mental health & crisis counseling?
I am about ready to graduate from nursing school and apply to take my NCLEX. I recently realized that a specific specialty I would love to become involved in is “crisis counseling.” Basically, someone who comes into a hospital/health unit/etc and helps counsel victims in scary & emotional situations. At this point, what would be the best route to go about accomplishing this goal? How does one become a crisis counselor? Could I do this as a nurse or should I go back to school for psychology/counseling?

I apologize if this all seems mixed up. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thank you for serious answers only.

Maybe you can attempt to pursue a degree in psychiatric nursing? I understand your point but I think it’s difficult to become a grief counselor or a counselor of any sort without a bachelor degree and then a master in your specified field. You should approach a university of your liking with your idea and they will direct you in the right course.
