Mental Health Counselors in the Air Force?
Question by nfogey_1981: Mental Health Counselors in the Air Force?
I’ll be graduating soon with a Master’s degree in community counseling, and I’ve been considering joining the Air Force after graduation. I looked at their website, but it doesn’t appear that mental health counseling is listed as a career option. In fact, the only mental health careers listed for officers are “clinical psychologist”, “mental health nurse”, and “psychiatrist”; None of which my degree by itself will qualify me to do. So who does the counseling? Is it one of these other specialties? or is it contracted out to civilians? What job could I do in the Air Force with my Master’s degree?

You need to talk to a Healthcare Officer Recruiter or ask question on www.airforce.com chat.
We go to mental health if we need therapy. Counseling is done by both civilian contractors and military, it just depends on the base.
