Psychiatry is the fifth largest medical specialty and ranks sixth in the number achieving board certification (6). The best estimate of the number of active clinically trained practicing psychiatrists in the private sector is 27,000.

This from “The Journal of Psychiatry”, approximately accurate for 2002-2003; hope this is helpful!

Also, as an MD and PHD in Neurology, I know from antoher journal that the percentage of psychiatrists over 60 is growing rapidly; the new residents entering the field are predominately female, and more of the counseling is done by psychologists and LCSW’s, with Psychiatrists mainly prescribing medications in consult with the forementioned counselors

Question by Watcha gonna Do bout it: I feel suicidal, anxious, like cutting and dieting…?
I used to be suicidal, delusional, a self harmer, have anxiety and be bordering anorexia.

Now, I feel it all coming back.

I feel worthless; no reason to live.
I feel fat; I need to lose weight.
I feel someone is watching me; always there.
I feel overwhelming urges to self harm; cut and scratch.
I feel afraid; anxious with people.

I got so bad that I stole a bit of vodka from the cupboard today.

I’m 14.

How do I stop this? COUNSELING ISN’T AN OPTION
