MCC 536 Welcome, David Hoppe, Ph.D. – © 2012 Bellevue University Welcome to Clinical Counseling 536, Medical and Psychological Aspects of Alcohol and Drug Use. My name is David Hoppe and I am an Assistant Professor of Clinical Counseling and Human Services. I am the lead professor for this course. The issue of chemical dependency is one of my areas of specialty. I began practicing as a chemical dependency counselor in 1988. I have counseled in a mental hospital, I have served as the clinical director of a half-way house for chemically dependent teens, I founded my own counseling agency, I maintained a private practice for over 10 years and I served as a campus counselor at a college for 18 years. My only focus now is teaching at Bellevue University. CC 536 will be a required course for successful completion of the Master’s of Clinical Counseling degree starting in the fall of 2012. Some of the objectives for this include: Identify and assess the physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of alcohol and drug use, abuse, and dependence. Evaluate the health effects, including those of the brain and central nervous system, with the pharmacology of alcohol and drug usage for all major classifications of drugs. Identify the major signs, symptoms, behavior patterns and belief systems associated with alcohol and drug use. I have loaded many supplemental videos in this class to offer you additional educational opportunities. I hope you enjoy this class and the online experience.
