Mary Kay Taxes for 2010?

Question by M.: Mary Kay Taxes for 2010?
I signed up in February or March of 2010 and I ordered the 600 kit. I didn’t MAKE a dime. I kept it for personal use and gave a lot away to family and friends. We ended up losing our baby and my director didn’t have any patience for “grieving”. Granted I had just started, but we had just suffered a huge loss.

I am curious about my taxes. What should I be expecting?

Nothing.

You can’t deduct anything that was personal use. You might have be able to deduct the stuff that you gave away as samples but you would need to show a “profit motive”. As you never really did much, this is more of a hobby than a profit making enterprise.

I am sorry for your loss.

There was a special on one of the news magazine shows a few years ago. It was about one of their directors who had developed breast cancer and couldn’t work much. Mary Kay pretty much cut her loose and even took back the car. With that company, it is sell or we will find someone who will.
