Is This Feasible? and How Would It Pan Out in a Courtroom?
Question by Zen: Is this feasible? And how would it pan out in a courtroom?
I’m writing a novel, and one of the characters has two definites. He overdoses on cocaine and is arrested, getting sentenced for rehab.
I want it as realistic and what I have so far is:
He is busted by the police and ingests a bag attempting to hide it, and subsequently overdoses.
He is arrested and tried and sentenced to rehabilitation.
I want to know:
a) Would he be taken straight from the courtroom to rehab, or would he be released first?
b) How would the court thing go?
Sorry I know NOTHING about law or courtrooms…
Any help would be great thanks. 🙂

He would probably be given time in between the trial and his sentence to put his affairs in order prior to disappearing for a little while. Unless the person is a danger to society (murderer, rapist, etc.), they are usually allowed this period prior to beginning a sentence.
