Only if you are capable of testing for the HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), better known as the “pregnancy hormone” at your residence. =) Since most private citizens do not have such sophisticated technology available to them in their homes, over-the-counter (store-bought) pregnancy test kits (which respond to the presence or absence of this hormone in urine) are a far more convenient option.
Should you be concerned about the actual “cost” of the pregnancy testing kit, perhaps it is in your best interest to consult your local telephone directory and check under the listings under the category of “Pregnancy Counseling and Information,” “Abortion Alternatives,” or “Women’s Health Clinics.” Those places often offer FREE pregnancy tests, and will be glad to provide you with all sorts of information and guidance related to contraception (birth control), pregnancy planning, pre-natal care, counseling, parenting techniques, etc. for free or on a sliding-scale (income based) basis. Based on my past personal experience, these clinics are very safe and reputable as far as having a good staff on duty, cleanliness, knowledgeability and expertise, meeting the needs of their clients, as well as maintaining a good, solid reputation throughout the community.
If you are concerned about your privacy or other people seeing you visit a clinic, or buying the pregnancy test kit and therefore finding out about your possible predicament, I’d suggest maybe having a trusted friend or relative purchase the kit for you instead. Most of the major drugstores in the United States are easily accessed via the Internet, and you could shop for the test kit in the comfort of your home, and have it delivered discreetly to your door.
Best wishes!
