If I Had the Money, I Just Thought of a Great Charity to Create. Anybody Care to Comment?

Question by Clara: If I had the money, I just thought of a great charity to create. Anybody care to comment?
Set up a “reformed Muslim rescue center”. I’ve done a fair amount of traveling in that world and met a lot of people who are just persecuted for wanting a little freedom and the ability to think for themselves. And, literally, the quality of their life is determined by the strictness of the religious jokers in their country. The poor guy in Iran has been arrested and beaten for protesting, while the chick in Egypt is just, literally, a prisoner in her own house. So set up a halfway house where you work with lawyers and whatnot to get them out of their countries and into, well, mine (The US). Or any other Western country that will take them. These are generally the best and brightest of the people in their world. The more curious you are, the greater intellectual freedom you want. And I think it’s the curious people who push human development forward. I’d offer psyche counseling as well, because they all have PTSD to one degree or another. So what do y’all think of this? It wouldn’t cost that much and I think it could do a lot of good for a lot of people.

you could probably get funding for something like that, both public and private funds. there are people who have plenty of money who would love to see that happen. for instance, take a look at ben afflack and his film argo. he had to have known that film was going to cause a great deal of trouble for him from the muslim world and it has….iran is trying to sue him over it.

but courage to do something about the repression of islam caused him to be willing to take the chance of telling a story that needed to be told. just in the hollywood community you would find plenty of support and help for such a project.

if i were you, i would put together a business perspectus and send it to people who have money who have shown a desire to help those who are down trodden. people like oprah, the afflacks, brad pitt, morgan freeman, etc.

you could also look into government grants and public funds which are available to non-profit organizations which offer help like what you wish to offer. i think it is a great idea, but you would have to have professional screeners who know how to smell out the fakes who would try to use it just to infilterate the united states. you would probably also have to have clearance from homeland security and work closely with the department of immigration, but it is a good idea and could be done.
