I Need an American Native Speaker to Read This for Me?
Question by Matt: I need an American native speaker to read this for me?
Hi guys,
I’ve been working on this task lately and I need to know if this is readable and not containing mistakes. I’m not a native speaker so yeah.
Any advise gets points, I salute you.
In the article “Relax, it’s only a test.” written by Paul and Annie Murphy, new insights into cognitive science is giving us a clearer understanding of the link between stress and performance and allowing experts to develop specific strategies for helping kids manage their fears.
The Laurel School is mounting an all-out campaign against the fears that tests induce. There are student workshops on test anxiety, the school counsels students about their worries and the school hands out pencils with motivational messages on exam days. These efforts have made a difference, most of the students now perform better. Another method originates from Sian Beilock and is called expressive writing. He made students write down their thoughts before a test. Suddenly more cognitive horsepower was available to the students.
Interventions like these may be needed more than ever. Since the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act, frequent high-stakes exams have become the norm at every public school.
Poor performances on these exams can have serious consequences: students with low scores can be held back, teachers whose students do bad can lose their job, and schools with below-average overall results can be closed.
Minority and female students experience a double dose of anxiety, they do not want to confirm the negative assumptions about the group to which they belong to. Geoffrey Cohen wants to reduce this “stereotype threat” by making them write about something they value. Embracing a positive stereotype is another successful method.
Even young kids are having test anxiety. Their worries show themselves in nonverbal signs like stomachaches, sleeping disorders and leaving classrooms to go to the bathroom. Heidi Larson designed breathing exercises to reduce children’s test anxieties.
These free strategies may not be working for everyone. Students who still suffer severe anxieties should consult a mental-health professional.
