I am not sure I understand the question. People basically go through the same stages of grief, although not necessarily in the same order, and they resolve each stage at a different rate.
When there is time for a person to express how they feel about a person before s/he dies, often the person finds it easier to resolve some of the issues surrounding their passing. When a person dies and the other people do not get an opportunity to express their thoughts about the passing, then there are unanswered questions, one of which is did they adequately express their emotions about them before they left.
