Question by bdubbayou: how does the plural work when parentheses are involved?
what i want to say is:
I watched her recovery every step of the way to her rehabilitation.

but i want to but twelve steps in there so i thought..

I watched her recovery every (twelve) step of the way for her rehabilitation.

the twelve is kind of a pun, therefore i dont want it to be part of the actual sentence.. there are 12 steps to rehab & recovery

so if i did “I watched her recovery every (twelve) step of the way for her rehabilitation. ” would step be steps?
