I still like girls, im not exactly gay i just want a woman’s figure(breasts, butt, hips, face,etc.). i dont know how ill tell them i wanna start HRT before my teen years are over. I love them very much and i hate to argue with them or hurt them, but i cant keep this secret from them forever. please help.

If you’re worried about how they’ll take it, discuss some other transgender person as a conversation starter (Chaz Bono or Jenna Talackova were pretty well known when they were in the media spotlight, you might want to talk about someone who’s in the news right now like Jazz).

If they seem to be accepting of trans-related issues, you could just tell them when you’re discussing the other trans person, “I feel like she does (sometimes/all the time)” Maybe let them know what you want to do about it, like: “I want to get an appointment with a gender therapist.”

If they seem uncomfortable with trans issues or you are still worried about coming out, seek out an LGBT youth center or PFLAG group near you, or look for a support forum for trans people online. (Laura’s Playground is one of the big ones)

Trans people are getting more visible in the media all the time, and a lot of liberal Christian denominations are very accepting, even welcoming! If you’re not sure of their church’s teaching on LGBT stuff, search for the church’s denomination (Episcopal, Methodist, Baptist, etc.) and “transgender” online.

Some conservative church people automatically assume every trans person is just “extra gay” or “gender confused”, so if your parents aren’t well informed they may need some information to work with. A book called “Transgender Explained for Those Who Are Not” is pretty good for explaining the differences.

This sort of discussion doesn’t always end in arguments and tears, I hope yours goes well when you decide to talk about it. Hope this helps!
