Question by : How do I get over my dog killing my other dog?
I have many dogs, actually 9. I was only very attached to one which is a corgi, and he killed my other dog, a chihuahua, yesterday. I didn’t want to see what I looked like, but now I’m getting really emotional. My mom decided she had to put down the corgi.. He has fought with my other dogs before and she wants to make sure this never happens again with anyone. I don’t know how to get over my favorite dog being put down, I don’t want to do anything or eat anything. It’s sickening to think he actually killed my other dog. I wasn’t attached to the other dog but I still am affected. I just need some advice, and please don’t say it’s wrong to put him down.. It’s not my decision and in the back of my head I know it’s what we have to do. All of this happened so quickly I don’t know how to feel.

I hope mum will let the vet check this dog over before doing anything quite as final as having him put down. If there have been other episodes of this fighting, and if it’s only recently been going on, there could well be a medical reason. You do realise that Corgis were bred to herd, and nip – so did he try this with the Chi. and the Chi came back at him, causing a fight that had only one conclusion? Nine times out of ten, it’s not the dog who is at fault but the owners. But the dog always gets put down, pays for it. Did anybody take the time to find out why the Corgi was fighting, and if necessary avoid the trigger, or separate them when unsupervised?

Of course this may be the only answer, but pts is not always the best, for anybody!! And very sad.
