How Do I Deal With My Grief?
Question by bassetfreak: how do I deal with my grief?
my 16 year old cat has been losing weight recently. I have had her to the vets 7 times since Sept 29. tried different foods, thought maybe she had a bowel infection, so tried different antibiotics, did an ultrasound – you name it – it was done. I finally had to make THE decision today – I know it was the right thing to do, because she was basically starving to death – wasn’t absorbing the nutrients from her food – but it doesn’t make it hurt any less. I miss her so much, all I have done all day is cry. If there had been anything else to do, I would have done it. When does it stop hurting? I found her in a field when she was about 4 weeks old and have had her ever since – she was my baby -and it just hurts SO bad. I don’t honestly know if I can go on without her – she’s all I had – and now I’m all alone
I have no one – absolutely no – one in this world. it was just me and Misty. I can’t even think of getting another cat, because I never want to go through this much pain again. I honestly don’t think I can go on living with this much pain – it feels like my heart has been ripped from my chest. I’m not in good health anyway-I have major depressive disorder and also have had 3 heart attacks, so I think it’s best if I join her

I’m terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your furry buddy. I am very sad.
Grief is a process. It’s about dealing with the pain of change, and the fear that we’ll be alone.
What may help is: Celebrate the time you had with her, it was after all a great gift. Praise the life that you two shared. Let whatever grief you feel wash over you. Be with it, don’t push it down. But don’t wallow in it either. Cry when you need to; really sit down and bawl. Then get up and do what needs to be done.
You did the right thing. Take some comfort from that.
…and, the sun will come up tomorrow. Go to meet it.
