Help! What Can I Do With a Masters in Psychology?!?

Question by Kiera Davies: Help! What can I do with a masters in Psychology?!?
I have a degree in psychology and have almost finished my masters psychology course. I am interested in the the health aspects such as eating disorders and counselling. The problem is my masters did not specialise in these but was more based towards clinical psychology. I have applied for a few assistant psychology jobs but have had no luck yet as they seem very competitive.

I am also living in a small town in the middle of nowhere and don’t drive and cant afford to learn. I would like to move away from home as soon as possible but I dont even know where to start when im looking for jobs.

I am willing to move away from psychology and maybe look for jobs such as social research or human resources, but I’m not sure how to go about this.

With a masters, you could work for an agency, group home, high school, or social services. Clinical usually goes into research. I suggest applying for jobs in large cities, with good transportation systems. You will need to borrow money to show up for interviews, etc. You can expect 2-3 interview before getting hired.
Maybe you can start as a psych tech in a mental hospital. Crappy job, but it could be a start. Or as a recreational therapist in a retirement home.
M.A. Would look good after your name if you wrote a book, or had the chutzpa to set yourself up as a consultant.
