Question by josh7289: Does Japan use an adversarial system of law or an inquisitorial system of law?
The US uses an adversarial system, but what does Japan use?

Also, is Japan more on the “innocent until proven guilty” side, or the “guilty until proven innocent” side? It could be that the law states one thing and the opposite is routinely practiced regarding this, so please mention that, if applicable.

A bit of both.

At trial, it’s adversarial, in that the defendant has the right to counsel, and both sides get to argue their case to the panel of judges (There is no jury in Japanese law).

Before trial, however, it’s an inquisitorial system. After an arrest, the police can hold a defendant for up to 23 days with no access to counsel, no rights against self incrimination, and no limits on the length of time he can be interrogated.

I suffered depression as a teen. I am now in my early 20’s. Recently, I tried to kill myself taking headache pills and lied to the doctor that I didn’t do it intentionally (since I didn’t take enough to die). I’m embarrassed of getting a psychiatrist and fear that they will make it known to my friends and family.

What happens when I get a therapist? Will they send me to the mental hospital? Will “depression” be on my medical record forever? Will it affect my job?

I’ve been through all of this. We’re exact on this. It’s alright to tell your family, because they care about you. But you don’t have to tell your friends if you don’t want to.

Question by ? ?????? ?: It it correct for people to describe their mood as depressed?
I’ve noticed that it’s becoming more and more common for people to describe their mood as depressed.
I think this is an incorrect use of the word “depressed”. I always thought of depressed as a state of mind and a condition that last for a long time, as opposed to a feeling which usually only lasts a few minuets/ few hours.

Am I right or wrong? Why?

your are right and wrong. some people have mild depression that doesnt last that long and others just over say it. you can usally tell if they r or not.
