Should I Visit the Doctor About Depression?
Question by simplynah: Should I visit the doctor about depression?
I’ve had a few appts but I keep bailing out, the reason is, for one, I actually went to the first one, and I had to go for a basic “screening” so a physician can put in a consult for a real psychologist. During the whole appt, he kept “ooh..it sounds like you’re just a normal person going through normal problems for your age, but! don’t worry, we all go through that, but anyhow, I’ll put in a consult.” This is a military hospital and it was just a standard procedure to see a physician before booking an appt w/ a psychologist. ANYHOW. so shortly after that, I got an appt.
For some reason, I’m scared to go in, what if this is normal? I’ve tried talking to so many people about my problems, & they all say, oh yeah we all have our ups and downs, I feel like, I’m just making this a big deal on how “I might be depressed or what not. I feel like I’ll waste my time & the Dr.’s time to go in and see if I really am depressed. What if I’m just a lazy person that can’t think for my own?
What is depression anyway? IS it something really even that serious to go in about? everytime I read up on the symptoms, I’m like, wow sounds like me. but then again, sounds like a lot of people,

it’s hard to explain…an indirect cause is basically something that contributed to the depression in a small way and unknowingly.
a completely random and unrelated example would be if your friend was struggling whether or not to buy a lottery ticket, and he remembers one time you saying to him “you need to take more risks,” thus he buys it and wins the lottery. You would be an indirect cause for him winning the lottery since you encouraged him to buy the ticket through something you said to him in the past…and you had no idea (unknowingly) that this would contribute to him winning the lottery.
