How Can Insurance Companies Check Your Health Records?

Question by : How can insurance companies check your health records?
Fifteen years ago, I was at a rehab centre in Guelph, ON, for sex addiction.
About 6 years later, I applied for Long Term Disability Insurance, and was denied, as I had put “Addiction” and “Depression” on the form.
I am now covered (mandatory LTD coverage with my employer), but would like to raise my life insurance coverage.
Two questions I am concerned about are “Have I ever been in an institution, and “Have I ever been denied coverage”.
I had disputed the diagnosis (and was subsequently rediagnosed as not being a sex addict. In fact Sex addiction has never been part of the DSM, and has recently been found to
be non-existant at UCLA.) I did a check with MIB, and they have no files on me.

If I don’t answer no to the questions above, am I risking my beneficiary being denied a payment?

WARNING “Mental Health” Are All Physicians Inept and Out of Touch With Patients?

Question by Order of L: WARNING “Mental Health” Are all physicians inept and out of touch with patients?
I’m 24 years old and I’ve been getting treatment for Severe Depression/Anxiety since I was 18. In Texas I am given a 15 minute window to describe my symptoms followed by the recommended prescription, then I’m ushered off to the payment counter. Most of what I try to convey to the doctor during the appointment isn’t listened to as she isn’t a therapist. When I was 21 I attempted suicide but I didn’t lose enough blood. They know my history. I see no empathy in their eyes, its just a business. They make an educated guess with prescriptions, “should we try, zoloft, prozac, if it doesn’t work we’ll just keep trying.” Thanks to this method I’ve lost half of my 20s to these illnesses while postponing my education 4 years. I’m unable to work and I’m a financial burden on my family.
At this point, in my current condition I only intend to out live my amazing mother.
In light of this “suicide pact” I am still on track to becoming a Psychiatrist. If I am able to overcome this quagmire I’m going to spend the rest of my life fighting it. I see no greater hope for a mental health patient than in knowing he has a doctor that can relate and empathize. This is not the case for the vast majority of these physicians it seems. There will be no blood on their hands should a patient die. Just an empty 15 minute slot that needs to be filled by another sucker. Thank you TEXAS
