If You Are a “Counselling Psychologist” Then Answer This!?

Question by han9290: If you are a “counselling psychologist” then answer this!?
Hi I am in Yr 10 at school.

I am seriously thinking about being a psychologist, especially working with families, children helping with their day to day lives, but I am not really sure what the work entails or whether i want to do it for the rest of my life!

I was wondering if someone could tell me in detail what kind of work it involves and whether you enjoy it from a personal point of view.

Thanks! 🙂

I’m not counseling, I’m clinical, but that’s pretty close. It sounds like you want to be doing mostly therapy (you could also do consultation, which is evaluation and helping the person get set up with resources). Your day will primarily consist of meeting with patients and their families to offer support and solutions and meeting with community members to improve resources for families.

I am in school now about to graduate with my B.A. in Psychology; I want to get into counseling. I know I eventually have to go to grad school but I want to know if I can still get licensed or get a job within the field without getting licensed with just a B.A.?

Answer by CanProf
To become a social worker you probably need an MSW degree. To be a “counselor” depends on what kind of counselor you are talking about. You might talk with an advisor within the Psych department to get some specific advice.

Good luck.
